WEC Co-chair Younghoon David Kim Delivers Keynote

at 2015 Asia-Pacific Gas Conference

 

Keynote Discusses Status of Global Gas Industry, Emphasizing Need for Technological Innovation Including P2G and Gas Fuel Cells.

 

 

[November 18, 2015] Younghoon David Kim, World Energy Council (WEC) co-chairman and Daesung Group chairman and CEO, gave a keynote address entitled ‘The Transition toward a Resilient Gas Industry’ at the 2015 Asia-Pacific Gas Conference (APGC 2015). The event, held at EXCO in Daegu was the first gas conferenceorganized by the newly formed Asia-Pacific Gas Conference.

 

Underscoring the important role that natural gas has to play as the world transitions toward lower carbon emissions, Kim also emphasized the need fora solution tothe challenges the gas industry faces: decreasing consumption, oversupply and pricing mechanisms. He also suggested utilizing innovative technologies, such as P2G (Power to Gas) and gas fuel cells to overcome such challenges.

 

As a co-chair of WEC for the past 3 years, Kim has had the opportunity to engage in dialogue with a wide variety of energy industry experts. At APGC 2015, Kim laid out a vision for the stability and growth of the energy industry based on the insight gained from his experience and knowledge. He also urged that the gas industry take a leading role in creating a better future.

 

 

The APGC 2015 was hosted by the Korea Gas Union and supported by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the International Gas Union. The conference ranfrom November 18 to November 20 at EXCO in Daegu.This year is the first time that the APGC was an international event. In the past it was an event for domestic companies under the name ‘Gas Industry Conference.’ Hundreds of key industry leaders, experts and policy makers werein attendance this year.  

 

Kim has served as co-chairman of WEC, the principal impartial network of energy, since 2013. In 2016, he will become Chairman and lead the Council until 2019.
