Korea.com English Site Celebrates First Birthday

[August 18, 2011] Korea.com’s English site (http://en.korea.com) is celebrating its one year anniversary with the ‘I♥KOREA’ event August 18 – September 25.

Korea.com launched a totally revamped English website August 2010 featuring a wide variety of contents specifically catering to the interests of foreigners. Daily foreign visitors now stand at 120,000 while Korea.com’s official Facebook page has over 1.7 million fans.

As one way of thanking its supporters Korea.com will host two ‘I♥KOREA’ events. The first is Show Your Korea where entrants can upload a video or take pictures of anything they feel is representative of Korea. Club Mania is our second event. The club manager who is the most active among the nearly 70 fan clubs operate by Korea.com will be crowned the winner. All nationalities are welcome to participate and winners will be given the opportunity to travel to Korea for 3 day/2 night trip of a lifetime with travel and lodging expenses covered by Korea.com.

Younghoon David Kim, CEO of Korea.com added, “These events are designed not only to show our appreciation to our foreign audience but also to attract new members to our portal site. We consider Korea.com to be the “Gateway to Korea,” a space where users can access a wide range of up-to-date information on Korea on topics ranging from Hallyu to IT and more.”

Korea.com has already attracted many foreign users with high profile events via its official Facebook page. Recently fans were able to vote for their favorite Korean drama as part of the Seoul International Drama Awards 2011 and for their favorite Korean make-up style via the “Beauty Survey with Cosmopolitan.” Prizes to participants included newly released albums by K-Pop artists such as Super Junior, 2NE1, and Kim Hyun-joong as well as the trendiest Korean cosmetics. Korea.com also offered an MP3 player, digital camera and a ticket to the 2011 IAAF World Championships in Daegu to the fans that left the most comments on Korea.com’s Facebook page.
