Daesung Energy's Employee Residence Reborn as a Hope House

Moving-in Ceremony Celebrates the Completion of the 6th Hope House

[May 20, 2015] After two-months of remodeling, Daesung Energy’s former employee residence has been reborn as a home for low-income people. On May 20th, Daesung Energy Co., Ltd held a ceremony to celebrate the construction of the 6th Hope House with all sponsors including Byeong-Heon Lim, head of Daegu Nam-gu district office, during which the key to the house was presented to its new residents.

The new house will be utilized by two families; a multi-cultural single-parent family from the Philippines with two children and a low-income single-parent family, whose head of household has raised three children and working at a restaurant.

Hope House is a social welfare project initiated by the Nam-gu Hope Welfare Center to help low-income households who suffer from a lack of affordable housing. Through sponsorships and talent donations, underprivileged people who are proactive and have a strong will for self-support are offered free housing for a period of time. For this project, Daesung Energy donated a former employee residence and 10 million KRW for remodeling.

Seokki Kang, president of Daesung Energy, pledged continuing support for the project, saying "We are glad that our former employee residence was transformed into a warm and welcoming home that will support its inhabitants' desire for self-reliance. As an energy company we not only warm homes but also would like to warm hearts, Daesung Energy pledges to continue to help those who are in need.”

Daesung Energy has participated in numerous residential improvement programs including the  Hope Dream Center Project (희망드림센터) and Jjokbang Clean Project (쪽방클린사업) with the Counseling Center for Daegu Jjokbang-chon (대구쪽방상담소). Moreover, the company operates social projects on an annual basis which bring hope to disadvantaged people, including participation in Habitat for Humanity programs.
