Younghoon David Kim, Chairman of Daesung Group

Named Co-Chair of the 2015 World Water Forum

[March 10, 2015] The 2015 World Water Forum National Committee named Younghoon David Kim, the Chairman of Daesung Group, co-chair, the committee announced Tuesday. The World Water Forum, a triennial event established in 1996, is one of the largest water-related events in the world and about 35,000 visitors from 170 countries are expected to attend this year’s event, the 7th World Water Forum.

According to the committee, Chairman Kim’s abundant experience in the global energy industry, including the hosting the 22nd World Energy Congress 2013 in Daegu and leading the World Energy Council as its co-chair, will be pivotal to making the forum successful. Among the many roles that Chairman Kim will perform, he will be focusing on external relations and inviting global key energy and water industry officials to the forum.

Chairman Kim will also give a keynote at the ‘Water and Energy’ session while engaging in networking opportunities with participating water and energy industry officials, so that the two different sectors will find ways to collaborate and provide more integrated solutions to areas of mutual concern.

In 2012, the World Water Council and World Energy Council signed an MOU agreeing to cooperate for more efficient water resource management. As a part of the on-going effort to follow through on the MOU, additional discussions will be held in Daegu, especially during the sessions devoted to water and energy.

In addition, Chairman Kim has shown genuine interest and expertise in the topic of the "FEW (Food·Energy·Water) nexus" at many global conferences where the focus was to secure resources for future generations, while also developing a sustainable FEW nexus-based business model.

As a part of the Chairman’s initiative, Daesung Group has been installing and operating the SolarWin system for the past ten years across many regions, including Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Bangladesh, Ethiopia and Ecuador. SolaWin offers solutions to the energy, water and food crisis as a whole by developing water sources for drinking and agriculture using renewable energy as a power source for the communities.

Besides Chairman Kim’s role at the 7th World Water Forum, Daesung Group is also sponsoring the Forum as an official royal-level partner.
