In Daesung Group’s hometown of Daegu, South Korea we are developing resources through waste recovery that not only keep the air clean for the benefit of local residents and but also creates a new energy source. The Group’s LFG site in the village of Bangcheon-ri, Daegu operated by Daesung Eco-Energy, is where methane gas is collected, refined and then sold as boiler fuel to Korea District Heating Corporation.

Purpose
Thanks to environmentally-friendly maintenance and operations, the Bangcheon-ri sanitary landfill has improved the quality of life for nearby residents by reducing air pollution and providing useful energy. It is an exemplary, environmentally-friendly business model.
About
Since October 2006 Daesung Eco-Energy has operated this sanitary landfill in Bangcheon-ri. On an annual basis Daesung collects approximately 50 million m3 of gas which is sold exclusively to Korea District Heating Corporation for use as boiler fuel for approximately 15,000 households.
Track Record
In August 2007 the Bangcheon-ri Landfill Gas-to-Energy Plant was registered as a Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, making it the first time that a municipality, the city of Daegu, was given CDM certification in Korea. (As of January 2013, Korea had 83 CDM certified projects.) The local air quality has improved greatly as a result of this reduction of the greenhouse gas equivalent of 310,000 tons of CO2 per year. Daesung Eco-Energy has the right to operate this concession until 2026.
