FROM: Daesung Group 2009 Korea-Japan-China Culture Content Industry Forum The 2009 Korea-Japan-China Culture Content Industry Forum was held in Nurimaru, Busan, from September 2nd to September 4th. Younghoon David Kim, Chairman of Korea Foundation for International Culture Exchange, emphasized that the countries of Korea, Japan, and China should create a strong three-way partnership to counter the impact of the American culture industry as represented by Hollywood. Chair Kim also pointed out that the global culture content market is growing more rapidly than other markets and has become much more competitive. Chair Kim also went on to note that Korea, Japan, and China must continue to strengthen their relative positions in the areas of online games, animation, and film, so that they may gain a competitive advantage in world markets. In addition, he recommended that those countries should improve their competitiveness through alliances with countries such as New Zealand, a recognized powerhouse in movie production. In the meeting, Sumi Yoshihiko, Executive Director, DCAj and Ding Lei, President, Wang Yi Computer System gave presentations as nongovernment delegates. Also, Hyung Dong Park, Chief, Korean Culture Ministry, Nobutani Kazushige, Head of Japanese Ministry of Economy, and Yu Xin Gyi, Director, Chinese External Cultural Exchange Association all made presentations as well. One of the outcomes of the 2009 Korea-Japan-China Culture Content Industry Forum was that all participants agreed to continue discussions for the purpose of creating a platform for cooperation and in order to focus on content exchange between Korea, Japan, and China. The Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism announced that its 1st Vice Minister, Jae-Min Shin signed a joint agreement with Japan and China’s chief delegates for the purpose of developing areas of further teamwork The chief delegates of those countries agreed to discuss establishing a Content Industry Cooperation Task Force for the purposes of joint research and the exchange of information.
