FROM: [Source: Daesung Group PR Team] "Energy and the Environment Together! - 2007 Youth Science Camp" - Free English classes taught by expert instructors from abroad - Learning about the value of energy and the environment through English operas and various hands-on activities - Camp to be introduced before WEC Italia in November Global energy enterprise Daesung Group (CEO: Chairman Younghoon David Kim) will be inviting some 40 students from the Seoul, Daegu and Keochang areas to participate in the 2007 Youth Science Camp at the Keochang Eco Energy Park in Gyeongnam from August 6 to 10 under the theme, "The Future Environment and the Importance of Renewable Energy." A long line of programs has been organized for this 2007 Youth Science Camp: including songs through which students will learn about the importance of the environment and limitedness of energy resources; operas in English that express the importance of renewable energy; arts and crafts sessions in English that utilize rice kernels, beans, other natural objects, waste materials, and recyclable objects; and field trips to the Daesung Institute for Clean Energy (DICE) and the Bangchon-ri sanitary landfill in Daegu. The 2007 Youth Science Camp programs and activities have been designed to meet children at eye level to help them understand the difficult topic of renewable energy and awaken the importance of renewable energy. This year's line of programs and activities are especially promising as UNICEF has contributed to the planning process and will help carry out the programs. In addition, field trips to Daesung Group's renewable energy research center and also observation of the Group's solar and wind energy co-generating facilities, production facilities of fuel for domestic use, and landfill gas facilities, will help youth understand the significance of renewable energy technologies. The Keochang Eco Energy Park - venue of the Youth Science Camp - was formerly a school that was closed and then remodeled to house local culture and education facilities. The Keochang Eco Energy Park is acclaimed for its contribution to local culture development and efficient use of facilities, and has been introduced as a new business model. In order to ensure effective implementation of all programs and activities, elementary education experts and instructors will be invited from abroad to present the English opera and conduct the English arts and crafts sessions; DICE renewable energy experts will facilitate the renewable energy field activities; and UNICEF volunteers will supervise the children to ensure smooth implementation of all activities. Some 42 children from Daegu and Keochang, including children of Daesung Group employees and children from Bethany House in Daegu will be invited to participate in the 2007 Youth Science Camp. Participation fees will be sponsored by Daesung Group's Daesung Haegang Science and Culture Foundation. This year's activities and programs are receiving growing attention as they will be introduced before World Energy Council (WEC) Italia as a representing example of youth programs on future-oriented, environmentally-friendly energy education. "The future of our children requires not merely the ability to communicate in English but also that our children understand global issues, such as global warming and environmental degradation, and acquire the ability to communicate and cooperate with neighboring countries, so that they may help resolve such issues," said Chairman Younghoon David Kim. "As a global energy enterprise, Daesung Group will continue to provide children and youth - leaders of the future - with opportunities to learn English and, more importantly, to learn about global issues and the significance of renewable energy."
