Daesung Group Chairman Younghoon David Kim Meets with China's National Development and Reform Commission Minister On August 29 Chairman Younghoon David Kim of Daesung Group met with Mr. Ma Kai, Minister of the People's Republic of China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) at downtown Seoul's Lotte Hotel. In their talks, Chairman Kim and Minister Ma discussed a variety of topics including a special focus on energy security issues resulting from long-term high energy prices as well as future policies for Asia's oil markets. Minister Ma, who arrived in Korea on August 28, has spent his career in Beijing, initially with the Xicheng Planning Commission. In the mid-1990s he was elected deputy chief of the National Planning Commission. Ma Kai has served as deputy secretary-general of the State Council and was promoted to NDRC minister in 2003. Most recently he accompanied President Hu Jintao during talks with Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez. For its part, Daesung Group has since 1999 led the development of a gas pipeline from Indonesia's East Natuna gas fields through Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong to terminate in Shanghai. This 4,800 kilometer project, which is technically sound, commercially viable, and economical, is known as the Asian Gas Grid (AGG) Project. |
