FROM: Daesung Group chairman David Younghoon Kim and Weta Workshop's Richard Taylor are shown at the "New Zealand Film Evening and Dinner" on Friday, July 14, 2006. (PiFan 10th Anniversary Special Event, Weta Workshop Exhibition and "Words of Greeting" from the Richard Taylor workshop pamphlet.) Words of Greeting Weta Workshop Exhibition and Richard Taylor Workshop I would like to begin by congratulating the Puchon Fantastic Film Festival on its 10th anniversary. Specifically, I would like to acknowledge the contributions of the city of Puchon, the festival organizing committee, and the distinguished members of the film community who, over the past decade, have worked to establish the festival as an international caliber gathering. In 2006 PiFan is highlighted by an exhibition from the world famous Weta Workshop of work from "The Lord of the Rings" and workshop given by internationally renowned visual artist Richard Taylor. Weta Workshop, which is co-owned by friends and colleagues Richard Taylor, Tania Rodger, Peter Jackson and Jamie Selkirk, is best known for their work on "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy and is a five-time Academy Award winning company that offers service to all aspect of the creative industry including design, special make-up effects and prosthetics, creatures, armor, weapons, miniatures, prop building, large scale sculpture, display work and costuming. Daesung Group, which has invested in many Korean films over the years, has now expanded its portfolio to include an investment in a New Zealand film entitled "Black Sheep" scheduled for completion at the end of this year. This film, with its outstanding special effects, is expected to be a box office success and serve as an incentive for many more joint Korean-New Zealand cross-cultural projects. Today's young students of film, along with the support of Korean audiences, will be creating films that will lead our culture industry into the future. It is my hope that through Mr. Taylor's workshop and the cutting edge techniques that he introduces our film industry will continue to advance to even greater global recognition. In closing, may I convey my wishes for an extremely successful PiFan2006 and the hope that audiences will be able to enjoy a wide variety of high quality and truly unique films here. It is my hope also that the spirit of crafsmanship demonstrated by Weta Workshop will long remain appreciated by film fans around the world. |
