David Younghoon Kim, Chairman, Daesung Group recently returned from the city of Shoaxing, China where he chaired the World Energy Council's (WEC) Asia-Pacific & South Asia regional meeting (May 24-26).

This meeting brought together representatives from nearly a dozen countries from the Asia-Pacific region as well as WEC's headquarters in London to discuss current issues and solutions in the field of energy including "Energy & Climate Change" and "Energy Sustainability in Asia-Pacific & South Asia." Distinguished participants in the conference included Dr. Hardiv Situmeang, Senior Advisor to the President, Director PT PLN (PERSERO) (Indonesia), and Dr. Rob Whitney, Managing Director CRL Energy (New Zealand) in addition to participants from Hong Kong, India, Japan, Philippines, and Taiwan.

Chairman David Kim, as regional vice chair gave both the welcoming address and chaired the regional meeting held on the morning of May 25. The results of this meeting and other WEC regional meetings held around the world will be presented in November 2007 at the 20th World Energy Congress in Rome.

In addition, Chairman Kim held extensive, separate talks with Mr. Zhang Guobao, Vice Chair, National Development & Reform Commission (NDRC) (China)/WEC Vice Chair (Asia) in Beijing and both parties agreed to make joint efforts to solve energy problems in the region.

The World Energy Council (WEC) is the foremost multi-energy organization in the world today with member committees in over 90 countries. Established in 1923, the organization covers all types of energy, including coal, oil, natural gas, nuclear, hydro and renewables, and is UN-accredited, non-governmental, non-commercial and non-aligned. One of this organization's many initatives includes the "Energy Scenarios to 2050 Project" which deals with the prospects for primary energy consumption for the world with global energy scenarios to 2050 and beyond.

In September 2005 Chairman David Kim was elected to serve as the Vice Chair of Asia Pacific & South Asia representing 23 countries in the region.
