Kim was speaking at the Plenary Session V, one of the major programs for the 2006 LES International Seoul Conference that opened last Saturday and will end today. "I believe strongly that protection leads to technological innovation and the appropriate transfer and dissemination of technology," he said in his speech titled "The Next Wave: The Culture Industry and the Internet." "I am looking forward to the creation of long-term, dynamic synergy with innovative intellectual copyright protection," he added. The Daesung chief introduced hallyu, or the Korean Wave, to the attendees, saying that Korea provides an excellent case study of the rapid growth of the culture industry. He said as part of a comprehensive investment in the culture industry, his company acquired a major portal site of Korea.com. He emphasized the need for new thinking and reforms in management, saying that targeting both aggressively high revenue and high profit margin is difficult to achieve with traditional methodologies and mindsets of management. "Successful business restructuring depends on the development and integration of new knowledge through the innovative management," Dr. Yeo said. "The focus has to be put on excellence in R&D, providing not only continuous developments of new innovative products, but also incubating new businesses, including intellectual capitals," he said. Introducing LG Chem as a leading provider of chemical products in Korea, he said the company is aggressively making transition from the investment-driven stage to the innovation-driven stage with the major source of competitive advantage - its capability for innovation.
