Title | [Yahoo(www.stuff.co.nz)] Sheep First Film of NZ-Korean Partnership | 2005.10.14 |

FROM: A comedy-horror film about genetically engineered sheep running amok, to be shot in Wellington next year, will be the first project financed under a new alliance between a Korean company and a New Zealand film house. Representatives of Daesung Group and Wellington's Park Road Post, which did post-production services for The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The World's Fastest Indian and King Kong, have signed an investment agreement for Jonathan King's debut feature, it was announced in Seoul. Black Sheep is set in New Zealand, where famously there are 10 sheep for every person, and tells of a genetic experiment gone horribly wrong. Park Road Post's chief executive Sue Thompson said the company forged a partnership with Daesung in March to use its post-production facilities for larger budget Korean feature films, telemovies and TV series. "We are confident that this original and highly entertaining project presents the perfect opportunity for us to work with this highly regarded Korean investor." Daesung has invested in around 30 features films, including Old Boy, Antarctic Journal, and Around the World in 80 Days. Black Sheep, jointly funded by the New Zealand Film Commission, the Daesung Group and New Zealand On Air, has distribution rights for Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia already in the bag, and several others in negotiation. Prime Minister Helen Clark, who visited Seoul in 2003 as part of a joint promotion of the New Zealand and Korean film industries, said she congratulated everyone involved. "This alliance is exactly the kind of partnership that we hoped would come from the 2003 trade mission which accompanied me to Korea," she said. Design work for the project will be provided by Oscar-winning Weta Workshop, made famous by The Lord of the Rings trilogy. The film will be produced by Philippa Campbell (Rain, No 2) of Escapade Pictures. Shooting on location around Wellington is set to start in early 2006. http://www.stuff.co.nz/stuff/0,2106,3442549a1860,00.html |
