Daesung Global Network Co., Ltd. ?one of the affiliates of Daesung Group (CEO & Chairman, David Younghoon Kim) will be entering into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on 7th October, 2005 to acquire www.korea.com, an Internet portal site known for its name, by its court receiver, Korea.Com Communications Co.,Ltd in earnest. With signing of the MOU, Daesung Global Network is expected to go through necessary due diligence procedure and the final contract is expected to be signed as early as the end of October. Daesung group is known to form a task force team to run smoothly the business and to provide the best contents and services for the customers after the acquisition. Daesung group is also known to shaping up a big picture for the site as a global cyber theme park. Through this acquisition deal, Daesung group is expected to establish itself firmly as a global cultural company and plan to design the site as world-wide informational gateway for Korea. Since most of Korean Internet portal sites are designed for Korean users, Korea.com will be targeting the international users who seek information on Korean tourism, culture, history, as well as financial information. Daesung Group is also considering to purchase additional web sites and seeking the strategic alliance with other businesses to promote synergy. Thrunet Co., has acquired Korea.com in 2000 at a price amounting to 5 million dollars, however Korea.com was in temporary financial difficulties. Daesung Global Network was designed as the preferred negotiator in the bid to acquire the domain. Currently Korea.com ranks seventh among community portal sites with 11 million subscribers offering various services including web mail accounts and community services.
