FROM:

Daesung Group celebrates its 58th anniversary this year. Daesung Group, formerly established primarily in the city gas and domestic businesses, has reinvented itself as 'global leader' through the diversification of business and international expansion. (S-Exporting Korea's first renewable energy system exported) Last May, Daesung Group exported an innovative renewable energy system to Mongolia. And, this year, it is participating in the solar energy project undertaken by Mongolian government. (Interview) Chairman David Young-Hoon Kim "In cooperation with the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Energy and the Mongolian government, subsequent to a yearlong experimentation period of a combined solar and wind energy system last year, we have begun to supply our product to the Mongolian government. We hope to provide a significant contribution to the gross Mongolian energy industry." Besides this, the activities of Daesung Group are stimulating the continued development of new businesses such as landfill gas, liquid fuel cells and the renewable energy system for Mongolia. Designating this year 'The Year of Globalization', Daesung Group is in the midst of preparing to launch into the city gas market in China. (S-Tackling the city gas market in China) Earlier this year, Daesung Group formed an MOU with a Chinese city gas corporation. In September, following the completion of the agreement, they plan to begin retailing their products. (Interview) Chairman David Young-Hoon Kim "Daesung has initiated a joint venture with one of the three top Chinese energy groups and a Singaporean energy group in this project to supply city gas. In relation to other Korean companies, I believe this is an innovative move." In order to improve customer service, Daesung implemented a new customer service call center, to be opened early this month in Taegu city. Through connecting with local universities and industrial schools in the Taegu City and Gyeongbuk areas, Daesung plans to recruit and educate local students to become customer service specialists. (Interview) Chairman David Young-Hoon Kim "In order to more effectively implement our CRM system, including database marketing, we have put into place new infrastructure, which we believe will create synergy between our customer service call center and our city gas business." Daesung's potential for expansion appears unlimited, not only within the energy business, but plans are underway for diversification into gaming, film, and other innovative fields. (S-Establishment of a new film studio) Due to his personal interest in the field of film production, Chairman David Young-Hoon Kim's Daesung Group recently secured an MOU agreement with a New Zealand film studio and together they are pursuing a joint venture. (Interview) Chairman David Young-Hoon Kim "We are in negotiations for establishing a film studio, and we are preparing together with New Zealand's Park Road Post, the company responsible for the postproduction of 'The Lord of the Rings'." From overseas energy businesses to cultural businesses, we can only look forward to Daesung Group's continually daring transformation in the future. Ju-Yeon Chae (yjchae@wowtv.co.kr) View Video Clip
