Younghoon David Kim, Daesung Group Chairman, will Give Keynote Speech at WEC Asia Energy Leaders Summit 2010 - Discuss solutions for the 3 major energy crises: energy security, climate change and energy imbalance - Willl ontinue to discuss the results from the Asia Energy Leaders Summit at G-20 Summit and APEC Economic Leaders Meeting SEOUL, South Korea. June 10, 2010 - Younghoon David Kim, Daesung Group Chairman, will give the keynote speech at the Asia Energy Leaders Summit 2010 on June 11 in Beijing, China. He will attend the meeting as the WEC (World Energy Council) Regional Vice Chair for Asia Pacific & South Asia. Co-hosted by WEC and China’s National Development & Reform Commission (NDRC), key figures from the energy industry across the Asia region and representatives from 20 WEC member countries will attend the summit and discuss solutions for 3 major energy crises: energy security, climate change and energy poverty. In terms of the keynote speech, Chairman David Kim said, “I will let the nations know that issues such as energy security, climate change and energy poverty are interconnected and now is the time to seek solutions together through a cooperative energy channel.” Kim also added that, “I will bring the results from this meeting to the G-20 Summit and APEC Economic Leaders Meeting so that such criteria can be reflected in future policymaking.” For this summit, energy policy makers and energy industry leaders from 20 different Asian countries will attend: Zhang Guobao, Vice-Chairman of China National Development & Reform Commission, Teruaki Masumoto, Executive Advisor of Tokyo Electric Power Company, Khalid Al Buainain, Senior Vice-President of Saudi Aramco, Mohamed Al Hamli, Minister of Energy-UAE, Douglas Ritchie, CEO of Rio Tinto, Pierre Gadonneix, Chair of WEC, etc. Asian countries, especially China and India, have recently experienced rapid economic growth and their energy consumption has passed that of developed countries. In addition, as the demand of fossil energy is expected to increase continuously in Asia, the responsibilities of the region on environmental issues have gained more weight. Younghoon David Kim, Vice Chairman of the WEC Asia Pacific & South Asia, led the summit in order to pursue solutions to the global energy crisis and to promote cooperation among Asia nations. Topics that will be covered during the roundtable are ▲ sustainable energy policies & strategies with a focus on nuclear, coal, oil and gas, ▲ the way to actualize a low carbon society by utilizing energy efficiency and renewables, and ▲ energy poverty and financing. The World Energy Council (WEC), headquartered in London, is an alliance of over 94 countries that provides information and resources on all aspects of energy, including coal, oil, natural gas, nuclear, hydro, and renewables. Younghoon David Kim has been serving as the regional vice chair for Asia Pacific & South Asia since 2005.
