Forging ties with the Solar Capital of Germany Vice-Chair of World Energy Council visits Freiburg A unique concentration of expertise, experience and practical examples makes Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany, a very attractive city for those looking for ways of building a sustainable future for all mankind. Two companies focused on making sustainability a reality, the full-service consulting company Intelligent Renewable Energy and the green building specialists common.swift:re, hosted the Chair of Daesung Group and Vice-Chair of the World Energy Council, Mr. David Younghoon Kim, in Freiburg for a combination fact-finding mission and partnership tour. “We share Charman Kim’s vision of a sustainable energy future”, remarked Markus Hartewich, CEO of common.swift:re. The focus of the visit will be on the exchange of views and ideas surrounding sustainability initiatives. Common.swift:re has its main focus on the broad dissemination of a series of Green Business Centers TM, developed by a consortium of Freiburg companies, around the world. “Daesung Group could be an excellent strategic partner in this”, commented Hartewich. Freiburg contains a number of interesting examples of future-oriented building and renewable energy projects. “We have learned much of what we practice the hard way”, commented Rian van Staden, principal at Intelligent Renewable Energy. “We can transfer that experience and knowledge effectively, and leapfrop older and less efficient technologies in Asia.” Asia is the key focus area for the growth in energy use worldwide. Buildings consume more than a third of that energy. “Green buildings use significantly less energy than conventional buildings”, explained van Staden. “By propagating Green Buildings throughout Asia, we can significantly impact energy use and hence CO2 emissions.” |
