Daesung Group Chairman, Younghoon David Kim Promotes the Next WEC Congress in Korea at the 21st World Energy Congress Montreal - Presents the world’s technological and political challenges at the dawn of a new era of energy echnology - Gives the closing address at Korea Night to promote 2013 Daegu World Energy Congress [September 13, 2010] The Chairman of Daesung Group, Younghoon David Kim, who is also regional vice chair of WEC (World Energy Council) attends the ‘21st World Energy Congress Montreal’ in Canada starting on September 12th for five days. Chairman Kim is in charge of leading various programs including participating in sessions and lecturing energy professionals from all over the world, as well as promoting the next World Energy Congress in 2013 in Daegu. At the ‘Sustainable Energy Solutions’ session, Chairman Kim will give his remarks under the title of “Which technical and political challenges will we face for the deployment of new energy generation technologies?” He will be emphasizing the importance of government financial support as well as the public acknowledgement in developing highly competitive new and renewable energy technologies. In addition, Chairman Kim is to chair the meeting of the WEC Asian Region Council. Chairman Kim will also attend Korea Night and give a closing speech to introduce Korea’s advanced energy industry, with an emphasis ‘2013 Daegu WEC’ in order to raise awareness among the world’s energy professionals and to encourage their participation in the upcoming congress. Chairman Kim stated, “This congress is a great opportunity for Korea to inform other countries about our energy technology and policy directions. Once successfully executed, there will be favorable impact upon the 2013 Congress at Daegu.” He continued, “Korea, once brushed aside in the energy industry, will be able to establish a good base as the center for world’s industrial exchange and commerce.” Chairman Kim will introduce his WEC Congress programs on his WEC blog (www.younghoonkim.com) during the energy congress. “Responding Now to Global Challenges: Energy in transition for a living planet” will be the key topic of discussion at the Montreal’s World Energy Congress, which will take place for five days and with the participation of more than 5,000 energy professionals including businessmen and politicians, officials from more than 100 energy exporting and importing countries around the world, and CEOs active in the energy business. Various exhibitions such as round table discussions, and other topical events will be held at the event, at which more than 20,000 visitors are expected. In addition, Korea Night and relevant presentations will be held at the closing ceremony to promote the 2013 Daegu World Energy Congress. There will be approximately 90 participants from Korea including delegates from Electric Power Corp. (KEPCO), Daesung Group, SK Group, SK Energy, Korea Gas Union (KGU), Korea National Oil Corp. (KNOC) and other public and private enterprises. WEC hosts energy conferences triennially attracting influential people such as energy policymakers and/or entrepreneurs from 94 countries. For 2013 Daegu Energy Congress, Chairman Kim, who is also the regional vice chair of WEC, will represent the 23 member states of the Asian Pacific region including Korea, Japan, China and Australia. He has contributed greatly to the selection of Daegu, one of Korea’s great metropolitan cities, as the host of the next congress. # # #
