FROM: Younghoon David Kim Reelected as WEC Regional Vice Chair. Daesung Group Chairman is first private sector representative from Korea to serve two consecutive terms Daesung Group Chairman and CEO Younghoon David Kim was reelected WEC regional vice-chair for Asia-Pacific and South Asia at the WEC Executive Assembly in Mexico City on November 7,, 2008. This fact was reported officially via WEC Asia-Pacific Liason officer Suzanna Samstag. WEC vice-chairs serve in six regions including Asia-Pacific, Asia (China), Europe, North America, Central/South America and Africa. They organize their own regional programs such as regional conferences and forums in accordance with WEC Regional Action Plans. Vice-chair Kim has led regional conferences, fundraising for local development, and participated the WEC Officers Council meetings since he was first elected WEC vice chair in 2005. In the mid-80’s, the then Science Technology Ministry Minister Keunmo Jung served as a WEC vice chair. Kim is the first to serve as WEC vice chair representing the private sector. WEC Regional Manager Chongmoo Lee commented, “Vice-chair Kim’s re-election means that Korea’s status is enhanced.” In addition, Kim will act as a positive influence on the 2013 WEC Congress which will be held in Daegu, Korea. He has stated that he will give his utmost support in making it the best congress ever. He also suggested that the WEC Korean Member Committee now be upgraded to the status of Organizing Committee to put spurs on the preparations for the Congress adding that it is critical that the Organizing Committee consist of the energy experts who fully understand the WEC organization, are able to network with energy leaders in WEC, and are well experienced in international conference with excellent communication skills. |
