Younghoon David Kim, Daesung Group Chairman Travels the Globe in Support of Daegu’s Bid for the 2013 WEC Congress - Chairman Kim will attend the London FT-WEC Energy Leaders Summit on September 16 and 17h and WEC Japan Member Committee’s WEC Asian Region Symposium. - As the candidate city selection date in November draws closer, Chairman Kim spares no effort to garner support for Daegu's ballot. In an effort to ensure Daegu's selection as the venue for the 2013 WEC Congress, Chairman Younghoon David Kim, WEC Asia-Pacific vice-chairman, will attend two WEC related conferences held in London and Tokyo this month. At the FT-WEC Energy Leaders Summit in London held on September 16 and 17, Chair Kim will appeal to WEC committee members to support Daegu, a candidate for the 2013 WEC Congress, as well as deliver a keynote address on the afternoon of the last day. Chairman Kim has used his network within WEC to support Daegu's bid, initiating various promotional operations such as hosting large-scale dinners since he was elected as regional vice-chair of Asia-Pacific and South Asia in 2005. The FT-WEC Leaders Summit is organized in partnership with London’s Financial Times and WEC. This year, the summit takes on the theme of “Investment Opportunities in Clean Energy Businesses.” Many internationally-known energy leaders including: Pierre Gadonneix (CEO of WEC Electricite de France), Angel Gurría (Executive Secretary of OECD), Alexander Karsner (Assistant Secretary of Energy Efficiency and New Renewable Energy at DOE), Philip New (President of BP Biofeuls), will be attending. As the FT-WEC Leaders Summit is the last WEC event preceding the WEC Executive Committee will be held in Mexico City in November for selection of the 2013 WEC Congress venue, lobbying to host the 2013 WEC Congress is expected to be intense. Chair Kim will attend the WEC Asian Region Symposium in Tokyo on September 3. As WEC Asia-Pacific and South Asia regional vice-chair, Kim will be giving a keynote speech while lobbying for the support of WEC Asia-Pacific member nations for Daegu’s bid. Chair Kim stated that, “Hosting the WEC Congress to Daegu is a project that I have been working on since I was elected as WEC regional vice-chair. With our energy industry and the Korean government 100% behind our bid, we believe that there is a strong possibility of succeeding.” He also went on to affirm that, “We will continue to work our hardest in order to secure Daegu’s candidacy. We look forward to the support of all Korea in this process.” The WEC Congress convenes every three years and is recognized as the premier global all-energy event. The congress is the foremost multinational event gathering experts from the 94 WEC member countries which participate in discussions on energy policies. Some people refer to this congress as the “Energy Olympics.” Daegu (South Korea), Durban (South Africa) and Copenhagen (Denmark) are competing to host the WEC Congress in 2013 and WEC’s other 91 member countries will decide upon the winning candidate. The 2010 WEC Congress will be held in Montreal, Canada.
