FROM: The Daesung Energy Science Camp for Korean youth opens in the era of high oil prices - Daesung Group's‘2008 Daesung Science Camp is held in Geochang on August 5th. - Youths participate in science and high level English programes. - Underprivileged teenagers are invited to the camp. Daesung Group will initiate its 2008 Daesung Science Camp at the Geochang Eco Energy Park, Gyeongnam, from August 5th to 7th. The Group invites 60 children from Seoul, Daegu and Geochang to the camp under the theme of “The Future Environment and the Importance of Renewable Energy.” Sponsored by The Daesung Haegang Science and Culture Foundation, Daesung Group’s own public utility foundation, the 2008 Daesung Science Camp will include various programs such as field trips to the Daesung Institute for Clean Energy (DICE), the Bangcheon-ri landfill gas (LFG) facility, the science experiments operated by Ewha Women’s University’s WISE center, multiculturalism education programs by UNICEF, English recreation & contest and an alcohol & smoking abstinence promotion. Furthermore, there are special programs which emphasize on environmental issues and new renewable energy sources including solar, wind, fuel cells and landfill gas with observing related facilities. Through those programs participants can realize and understand the issues that the global is paying attention. Plus its staffs who are fluent in English will help participants to speak and hold conversations in English during the three days and two nights camp in the practical and enjoyable English circumstances. The Daesung Group invites 60 children under the financially unstable homes, low income homes and underprivileged situations in Daegu and Geochang supported of all the expenses by the Daesung Haegang Science and Culture Foundation. Moreover, it will be held at the Geochang Eco Energy Park where was a closed school, then renovated as a local culture and education facilities and it is being acclaimed a cultural and efficient place contributing to local communities. Daesung Group Chairman Younghoon David Kim, also a supervisor of the Science Camp, stated that, “from a young age, children must be educated of tolerating and respecting the differences, in order to resolve recently emerging critical environmental threats, such as global warming and energy depletion.” and “At this year’s camp, not only will the children learn about next generation energy sources but also multicultural understanding which will allow the children be able to dialogue and collaborate with all over the world to solve the global problems.” As a global energy enterprise, Daesung Group plans to continuously host those kinds of camps for children who hold the future in their hands, by providing them the opportunity to experience personally global issues and realize the importance of new renewable energy. The 5th Daesung Science Camp is held every year to promote science technologies and nurture a science foundation by the Daesung Haegang Science and Culture Foundation. It is the one of Daesung Group’s main efforts to serve the local community in that Children who are interested in the sciences or underprivileged children can join. |
