[July 29, 2013] Daesung Group (Younghoon David Kim, CEO) will host a 4-day serious game camp <2013 Echo Energy Camp> for elementary school students between July 29 and August 1 at its Geochang education and training institute in Gyeongsangnam-do.

The 10th anniversary camp has been specially designed under the theme <Securing Tomorrow's Energy Today>, wishing for success of 2013 Daegu World Energy Congress (WEC) scheduled for October. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the subject, creative problem solving ability, and teamwork skill for solving cooperative tasks by creating serious games about energy and environment in person.

The camp will be attended by 40 elementary school students in the fifth and sixth grade, divided into 5 different teams. The participants will gain a deeper understanding through the whole program by attending lectures on the theme of ‘Energy’ and ‘Serious game’, taking field trip to an energy facility, and participating in group discussions. In particular, participants will visit Korea’s first 200kW tower-type concentrating solar tower power system developed by Daesung Group and the landfill gas recovery plant in Bangcheon-ri.

And with the assistance of students from Keimyung University’s Dept. of Game & mobile Contents, participants will take part in various activities necessary for game production such as composition of themes and stories, development of characters, and computer programming. On the last day of camp, there will be a ‘Game Show’ and an awards ceremony, during which students introduce their team’s games in the auditorium at Daesung Energy’s headquarters.

Games created by students will be screened by serious game and education specialists, including Suzanna Samstag Oh, President of Games for Change’s Korea branch, Professor Im Chung-jae of Dept. of Game & mobile Contents at Keimyung University, junior educational researcher Kim Bong-jun of Daegu Education Training Institute, Lee Jae-kwang, E-fun department head of Daegu Digital Content Promotion Agency. Every game created by the participants will be created using mobile applications.

<2013 Echo Energy Camp> is jointly hosted by Dasung Haegang Science & Culture Foundation, organized by Daesung Holdings and Keimyung University, and sponsored by Daesung Group, Daesung Energy, KFTA remote education training institute, and U Learn Net institutes of lifelong education.

Since 2004, Daesung group has been hosting science camps for youth on an annual basis.  Beginning in 2009, serious game development courses have been integrated in the camp programs. The camp has been running on the theme of renewable energy, youth health, South-North division in the Korean peninsula, and the safety consciousness. Expenses for participating in the camp are fully covered by Daesung Haegang Science & Culture Foundation.
