Following South Korea’s designation as host country for the 2013 World Energy Congress (WEC) at the World Energy Council executive assembly in Mexico City on November 7, 2008, a plenary meeting of the establishing committee for the 2013 Daegu WEC organizing committee was held at 7:40 today at the Chosun Hotel. At the meeting, which followed five months of preparation, the organizing committee’s articles of association were decided and its members, leaders and executive committee selected, allowing for May completion of the committee’s corporate registration and the beginning of preparations in earnest for the congress, the city of Daegu announced.

The 2013 Daegu WEC organizing committee is being formed as a separate juridical foundation in terms of the civil code from the existing Korea Energy Foundation, the World Energy Council’s Korean member committee. The goals of the organizing committee are to carry out efficient preparations for the 2013 congress and to manage the congress effectively.

In addition to representatives of leading Korean energy-related businesses, the 2013 Daegu WEC organizing committee will feature participation from academia, research organizations, and a majority of related public enterprises.
