[June 15th, 2015] Younghoon David Kim, the Chairman of Daesung Group, visits Manila from June 15th to June 20th to preside over global energy events including the World Energy Leader’s Summit (WELS), held in conjunction with the Asia Clean Energy Forum 2015 (ACEF) as the Co-chair of World Energy Council (WEC), one of the host organizations of the ACEF. World Energy Council Co-chair Kim will also lead the WEC Officers Council meeting and participate in  three WEC standing committee meetings scheduled to be held during ACEF.

The World Energy Leader’s Summits (WELS) are high-level exclusive events organized twice a year by WEC with the participation of global energy leader’s including government officials, company executives and academic experts to facilitate on-going dialogue on critical issues affecting the energy world.

The main focus of the discussions during the Manila WELS will be on the establishment of balanced policy, regional cooperation and energy infrastructure needed to implement the institutional changes necessary to solve the Asian Trilemma - energy security, accessibility and climate change. Additionally, an in-depth examination will be conducted on changing LNG market conditions and the problem of the Asian LNG market which has a relatively inflexible price structure despite the fact that Asia imports 70% of the world LNG trading volume. A ministerial round table will also be held separately, providing the opportunity for the participating countries to discuss how to reinforce energy cooperation at the highest diplomatic levels.

The Asia Clean Energy Forum 2015 (ACEF),which celebrates its 10th anniversary, is hosted by WEC, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Korea Energy Management Corporation (KEMCO). During the forum, policy makers, company officials and investors will discuss cooperation and technology exchange between various sectors for the development of renewable energy and the improvement of energy efficiency. In this year’s forum, Korean companies such as LG Chem Ltd., Hyosung and Woorizen are also participating.

“These global energy events offer opportunities to examine world energy issues from different points of view, and WEC provides a platform for more constructive discussions. I hope the events encourage vision sharing by the participants in order to take a step forward in implementing WEC’s philosophy for balanced energy supply and use,” said the Chairman Kim.
